A Campus worth 5 Billion Dollars

Technology parks established in university campuses around Turkey are hosting more and more entrepreneurs each day. These facilities help the development of many technologies, while business connections generate significant value. ITU ARI Teknokent in Istanbul Technical University is a case in point. Supporting the production of various technologies with the entrepreneurship contests it held recently, ITU achieved great momentum in ARI Teknokent.   

President Mehmet Karaca of ITU discussed the moves ITU made in technology and entrepreneurship, stating that Teknokent has 203 companies in total. Karaca said, "This year, companies in ITU Teknokent will develop technologies in various fields from health to communication and generate an income of 5 billion dollars in total. This is good for our export as well.  Right now the companies in Teknokent have reached an export volume worth 150 million dollars. Also, a significant number of people are employed here. According to latest reports, 6 thousand people are working in the companies of Teknokent.”  '5GPLUS' RESEARCH Karaca, stating that they are also doing research on 5G technology as well as 4.5G, said “We will cooperate with Berlin Technical University. The technology we will work on will be ‘5G Plus’. This cooperation will begin in the middle of December. There will be an R&D center focusing on informatics. We are currently working to make this happen.” Karaca also indicated that ITU Seed provided more than 7 million TL to entrepreneurs since its foundation in 2012. Karaca said that 23 patent rights had been obtained this year alone, and more were about to come.
